So you want to play Fire Emblem: Heroes along with the rest of the world, but the rerolling ritual everyone’s talking about is kind of intimidating?

Don’t let it throw you off – it’s a lot simpler than it sounds, really. Here’s a condensed version of everything you need to know, along with a handy step-by-step guide to the entire process for iOS and Android.

Why reroll?

Most people do it to secure a 5★ hero right at the beginning. Think of him/her a as a time investment that pays off by carrying you through the majority of the early game content. For long-time fans of the Fire Emblem franchise, rerolling is also a sure-fire way to obtain your favourite character.

The process

What we refer to as the ‘roll’ is your first summoning process in Fire Emblem: Heroes. You’re able to access the summon tab from your castle after completing the tutorial preface (parts 1 and 2). Clearing the preface grants you 15 orbs. Head into your mailbox (click the owl!) and retrieve the bonus 2 orbs granted by the game – this lands you a total of 17 orbs.

From here, you have two options:

  1. Summon 4 heroes for 17 orbs, or
  2. Play 3 story chapters to earn 3 orbs, putting you at a total of 20 orbs. This allows you to summon 5 heroes in your first session.

Note: Do not link your game to a Nintendo Account! If you do, you won’t be able to reroll unless you clear all data from your device.

4 or 5-hero summon?

It depends. If you have your mind set on a particular waifu/husbando, go for the 4-roll for efficiency’s sake. The 1 extra roll really doesn’t justify the time sunk into playing three additional story chapters.

On the other hand, if you’re gunning for a well-rounded team, your wi-fi connection got game and you’re confident you can retain your sanity, go for the 5-roll! May the Force be with you.

This is Lyn. You probably know her. In fact, you’re probably reading this guide because you want her.

Drop Rates, Focus, Colors and Successive Summoning

…or stuff that’s kinda boring af but critical to know.

If you’re bothering to reroll, you definitely want to aim for a 5 hero. While all heroes can be eventually uncapped to 5, you’ll be saving tons of effort by grabbing one from the get-go. Here are your chances:

  • 5 ★ (focus): 3.25%
  • 5 ★: 3.25%
  • 4 ★: 35.81%
  • 3 ★: 57.69%

The ‘focus’ bit is where things get more specific. In Fire Emblem: Heroes, certain heroes get an increased draw rate as follows. The choices seem completely arbitrary, but hey – you’re in luck if you want one of these heroes.

*Updated 15 Feb* New Heroes! Focus: Family Bonds

Eirika: Restoration Lady
Seliph: Heir of Light
Ephraim: Restoration Lord
Julia: Naga’s Blood

Fire Emblem: Heroes - Focus Summoning
Pull from the selection that grants your bae increased draw rates!

When it comes to attempting to pull specific heroes in Fire Emblem: Heroes, their type also comes into play. Take Lyn for example: she’s a red (fire) type hero. There are four colours in total: red, blue, green and grey.

When summoning, you’re given a selection of 5 pre-set stones to choose from. The color of each stone determines the pool of heroes you’re pulling from. So if you’re pulling for Lyn, this is a good selection to see when summoning from Focus: Legendary Heroes.

Fire Emblem: Heroes - Summoning

Orb costs decrease with every successive summon within the same session, like so:

1st pull: 5 orbs
2nd, 3rd and 4th pulls: 4 orbs
5th pull: 3 orbs

Putting it all together

It’s probably a good idea to check out one of the existing tier lists for Fire Emblem: Heroes (maybe this one?) and decide on a couple of heroes that you like the looks of and that the community has jointly theorised will last you into endgame.

From there, take note of their types, whether they have an increased focus draw rate and whether or not they come in a 5★ form. This will set the tone and steps for the grind ahead.
